In one of the largest anti-drone operations in recent times, Indian Army Air Defence units shot down more than 50 Pakistani drones attempting to breach Indian airspace along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB) on Wednesday night, defence sources told ANI.
The Pakistani swarm drone offensive targeted multiple sectors including Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, Nagrota, and Pathankot, but was swiftly countered by Indian forces using an array of advanced anti-drone weaponry.
“Over 50 drones were successfully neutralised during a large-scale counter-drone operation conducted by Indian Army Air Defence units,” sources confirmed. The Army employed L-70 guns, Zu-23mm, Schilka systems, and other modern counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS) in the operation.
The failed incursion attempt led to a tense night across border regions. Residents reported blackouts and heavy retaliatory fire, with local schools remaining shut as a precaution.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah acknowledged the incident on X, writing: “Driving to Jammu now to take stock of the situation after last night’s failed Pakistani drone attack directed at Jammu city & other parts of the division.”
Civilians living near the border expressed confidence in the armed forces, with one resident telling ANI, “Our forces gave a befitting reply. We are proud of our Army and our Prime Minister.”
Despite the intensity of the assault, no casualties were reported, and the Indian Armed Forces successfully prevented the drones from reaching civilian targets, reinforcing their readiness to counter evolving aerial threats.
